Is Lily (cats) toxic to cats?
Also known as: Easter lily / tiger lily / Asiatic lily
🚑 What to do right after ingestion
Go to the vet immediately — decontamination plus IV fluids is the only chance; untreated beyond 48 hours carries a grave prognosis. Keep every lily out of cat households.
Toxicity notes
Every part is lethal to cats: petals, leaves, stems, even pollen and the vase water cause acute kidney failure. A few licked pollen grains can be fatal. In dogs, lilies usually cause only mild GI upset.
Poisoning symptoms
- • Vomiting (within 2 hours)
- • Severe lethargy
- • Refusing food
- • Polyuria then no urine (kidney failure)
Symptoms can be delayed (e.g. onion/garlic-induced hemolysis may take days) — a pet looking fine right now is no reason to relax.
FAQ
How much causes poisoning?

Can I make my pet vomit at home?
Home-induced vomiting is not advised: corrosive cleaners, sharp bones or existing neurological signs make it dangerous, and improper technique risks aspiration pneumonia. Vomiting should be induced by a vet with proper drugs at the right moment — most effective within 1-2 hours. So “head to the clinic as soon as you know” beats “try to induce vomiting first”.
